The Ballston Lake committee has been working for the last several years with the goal of bringing sewers to the Buell Heights, hamlet of Ballston Lake and areas surrounding Ballston Lake. It has been an important activity needed to remedy serious health and environmental issues in the area. The Ballston Lake Sewer Project involves construction of a new sanitary sewer collection system to serve the area immediately surrounding Ballston Lake and certain adjoining residential communities. The project is located within the Saratoga County Sewer District No. 1 (SCSD) in the Towns of Ballston and Clifton Park and will connect to the existing SCSD system near Shenentaha Park. Water quality sampling of Ballston Lake over the past 25 years has documented a decline in water quality due to excessive contaminants. The developed properties surrounding Ballston Lake currently utilize on-site septic systems for wastewater handling which have been determined to be inadequate or with a high potential for failure. Recently, the State of New York added Ballston Lake to the List of Impaired Waterbodies in need of Total Maximum Daily Load development with the impairment listed as phosphorus and the cause failing on-site septic systems and storm water runoff. The purpose of the project is to protect public health and environmental quality.
