The City of Keene’s Massive Cluster of Wipes Clogs Sewer System

The city of Keene, NY has experienced a sustained dilemma with the all-too-familiar wipe, causing blockages in the sewer system. In recent years, the city has seen an increase in the use of flushable wipes which has subsequently placed a hardship on the treatment facility. While this epidemic is not necessarily a new problem, the amount used has greatly increased within the past several years. While many brands are labeled as flushable, they do not dissolve as toilet paper does. The are labeled with this redeeming quality due to a passing score on a test that requires wipes to begin to

New York Devises Distress Signal for Sewer System

Various Cities throughout New York have recently implemented a cost-effective program to assist homeowners in the detection of a possible sewer problem, thwarting it before it begins. The Sewer Back-Up Alert System is a solar powered sensory and communications system designed to alert a homeowner of a sewer back up on their property. By providing a practical early warning system, it enables households to take appropriate actions to tend to an overflow problem quickly. Making “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” quite right, in this instance.  This sensory unit has all the makings of a high-tech

Whether well-behaved or precocious, the horses are there in all their glory. From the

No Ordinance for Separate Sewer in Hudson

The town of Hudson has received a grant to complete renovation of sewer pipelines.  The EPA has raised has suggested that a review of environmental concerns needs to be extensive before this project commences.  The topic of storm water separation, and the necessity of it, has been met with conflicting opinions.  The Sewer Authority is well advised to consider a separate sewer system, according to experts.  It is thought to be the best course of action for the prevention of overflows, of a combined system, due to rainy weather.  In the state of New York, however, there is question as

Sewer and Water 101

Summer is indeed here in all its glory.  We know that means rainfall is here, too.  In fact, in many parts of the country we have had record setting storms.  Precipitation can heavily contribute to an overloaded sewer system.  As a nation, we have over 700 communities that utilize combined sewer systems.  There are some Cities that have separate sewer systems but this is no small financial investment.  Even so, municipalities have the burden of making sure these systems are functioning. It can pose a health risk and even more financial strain if they are not. There are small contributions

Sewer Vent Incident!

Do you know how to locate your sewer vent at your home?  The more knowledge on this subject, the better as it could cause a safety hazard if the vent is left uncovered. A very young Yorkshire terrier named Bailey was just bailed out of a frightening situation in Buffalo, NY.  He fell in a sewer vent and had to be rescued after water authority workers dug a hole around the sewer pipe to free him.  He was able to crawl out and thankfully averted a tragedy. Ideally, the best way to locate a sewer vent would be to contact
