Do you know how to locate your sewer vent at your home? The more knowledge on this subject, the better as it could cause a safety hazard if the vent is left uncovered.
A very young Yorkshire terrier named Bailey was just bailed out of a frightening situation in Buffalo, NY. He fell in a sewer vent and had to be rescued after water authority workers dug a hole around the sewer pipe to free him. He was able to crawl out and thankfully averted a tragedy.
Ideally, the best way to locate a sewer vent would be to contact the City planning office AKA City hall to inquire about a map for this or even having a plumber out to take a look. However, looking around the perimeter of your house near your basement to make sure the vent is covered would help ensure your safety.
